Welcome Speech

chairman

Hong Kong Beauty and Wellness Association (HKBWA) has already set its footstep in Hong Kong more than a decade ago and has officially established for four years. With the gradual development and a growing number of industry members in our organization, we have successfully pulled our strengths together and built up an united network for the benefit of our industry..

According to the 2012 Survey Report of Beauty Care, Hairdressing & Cosmetics Industry by VTC, there were 58,774 beauty practitioners as at 2012. Nevertheless, an arbitrary classification of beauty products and service and unclear position of beauty institutions or enterprises, beauty industry failed to cooperate and protect their interests. Also, beauty industry overlooked the seriousness of injuries and casualties caused by beauty service through medical procedures. Society urged the government to amend the law regarding the beauty accidents, while the law failed to clarify the differences between the beauty industry and the medical industry. Thus, the public queried the skills and professionalism of the beauty industry, which strongly damaged our credibility.

HKBWA hopes to advocate and rebuild professional image of the beauty industry. These years, we have concentrated on the following tasks:

  • To provide and share the latest beauty information, technology information and recognition details with beauty enterprises and practitioners. They can also exchange information with members.
  • To provide resolution for beauty salons and customers when conflicts arise. Being self-supervised so as to relieve the burden of Consumer Council in handling the complaints against the beauty industry.
  • To support the beauty industry and enhance the image. The association will help the fell beauty enterprises to provide the remaining treatments for their customers in avoidance of jeopardizing the interest of the whole beauty industry. Also, we will shoulder the responsibility of the fell beauty enterprises.
  • To provide legal support for the beauty industry in avoidance of wrongful use of technologies and the violation of the law inadvertently.
  • To build up a social platform “The Voice of Beauty”. Enterprises or practitioners of beauty industry can express their opinion freely and we will reflect them to society.
  • To provide academic and technological platform. Interested individuals and beauty practitioners can further study and obtain certificate and/or diploma on beauty profession relating the use of beauty apparatus, sales tactics, legal knowledge, differences between medical procedures and beauty procedures. Graduates can be more professional and protect the reputation of the beauty industry together.
  • To clarify the differences between the medical industry and beauty industry by engaging dialogue with the government, thus gaining respect and understanding from society.
  • To urge the government to listen to the voice of beauty industry and build up a supportive relationship with the government.

Our association hopes to strengthen unity so as to pull the resources to jointly demonstrate the importance of beauty industry. I earnestly hope that we can make more glorious achievements together!
